ISTANBUL–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Turkcell (NYSE:TKC) (BIST: TCELL) Turkey’s leading telecommunications and technology company, unveiled T50 – the latest smartphone of Turkcell’s successful own-branded T-Series line. With this new phone, Turkcell adds two firsts to its leadership track record: T50 is Turkey’s fırst operator-branded smartphone with 4G as well as being the first operator-branded smartphone with wearable accessories.

Enabling access to knowledge…now with 4G
“We see smartphones not as items of luxury, but as mini-computers that enable our customers to have access to knowledge and make their lives easier. Making advanced technology affordable was the factor that motivated us when launching our own-branded T-Series. We continue to break new ground in Turkey’s smartphone technology with T50 – Turkey’s first operator-branded 4G smartphone. Although Turkey does not yet have an officially announced calender for 4G licensing, we follow global LTE trend closely and make our investments in line with the emerging technology both on the network side and on the smartphone side. Our next area of focus is 4G and we will continue to be the leading operator in Turkey in LTE .” said Turkcell CEO Sureyya Ciliv at the launching of T50.

During the lauching event in Northern Cyprus, Turkcell carried out a LTE test which saw download speed of 135 mbps. Turkcell previously reached a record 891 mbps speed in LTE tests carried out in a laboratory setting.

Smartphone as a computer
In addition to its 4G feature, T50 offers great user experience with its quad core application processor, advanced camera properties and a 5-inch display, which was used for the first time on a T–Series phone. Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat OS houses many applications such as Kingsoft Office and Turkcell’s cloud service ‘Akilli Depo’ in order to let users work on the go. T50 comes fully loaded with Turkcell services such as Turkcell TV, Turkcell Music, Turkcell Video, Turkcell application store T-Market.

The advanced 13 MP rear camera featuring HDR, panoramic shooting and smile recognition allows users to take lifelike pictures while selfie-lovers can enjoy the 2MP front camera. HD sound provides a clear conversation thanks to the noise reduction technology of T50.

Wearable accessories: T-Fit wristband
T50’s wristband T-Fit is multi-functional. It allows for health-tracking through its stepmeter and calorie counter. It also helps improving the quality of sleep through alarm and vibration features.

Increasing smartphone penetration: The success of T-series
Having launched T10, Turkey’s first operator-branded smartphone in 2011, Turkcell has now reached a milestone of 1.5 million own-branded devices sold in Turkey. Of that 1.5 million, 7 out of 10 customers were introduced to a smartphone for the first time with their use of a Turkcell T-series phone – further proof of the T-series’ contribution to Turkcell’s goal of increasing smartphone penetration in the Turkish market.

Turkcell T40, which was made available for sale at the beginning of 2014, was Turkey’s first locally-designed and locally-produced smartphone. Following the success of its predecessor, T50 will be partly manufactured in Turkey.

T50 is expected to be available for sale in Turkey at the beginning of July 2014. In line with Turkcell’s policy of making technology available at affordable prices, T50 will be available with a price tag of 350 USD.
