GLOBAL provider of fleet and mobile asset-management solutions MiX Telematics has acquired Mobitech — a small South African tech startup that provides a smartphone app and web front-end development services, used by field workers.
MiX said on Friday that the business move was designed to “strengthen its capability in the mobile workforce management domain”, and ultimately to bring real mobility to the fleet industry. “With this acquisition, we’re gearing our software development teams to combine the best of fleet management and mobile technology — a prerequisite in an industry where mobile is becoming a strong business enabler,” said MiX Telematics CEO Stefan Joselowitz.
The company said the Mobitech solution, which will initially be available in South Africa, will also be rolled out internationally later this year. The announcement comes a day after MiX reported a significant increase in its vehicle subscriptions, which pushed its total subscription revenue to R220m during its third quarter to end-December. The number of vehicles using trackers, at 428,500, was up 26% from the previous quarter, when it reported a 28% rise to 404,000 subscribers.
